The National Education Trust, in association with Brian Moses, is extending the successful and acclaimed Able Writers programme - click to see the calendar of events.
Able Writers groups were first established six years ago in different parts of the country - giving teams of talented young writers from a group of schools the opportunity to spend the day with a professional writer, three times a year.
Children are recognised as able writers and are made to feel 'special' in that sense.
Children produce work of an exceptionally high standard.
Sessions are professionally run, and they take into account the needs and strengths
of the group very quickly, enabling the children to relax and enjoy what the day has to
offer.
The fact that children are given the opportunity to work with a recognized author
or poet brings excitement and relevance to their writing and allows them to develop
ideas with a range of likeminded children who have a zest for literacy.
It impacts favourably on the host and visiting schools as it promotes co-operation
and relationships with other schools.
It allows the children to be creative in a structured learning environment where
praise, feedback and support are given
They become 'teachers' and critical friends, able to help others
