As many of you will know, my friend, colleague and super NET Trustee Mike Baker has recently been diagnosed with cancer. Mike's progress in tackling cancer is detailed in his excellent / uplifting / extremely challenging 'beating cancer blog'. Update 21 Sept 2011: see Marc's fantastic cancer run result on Mike Baker's web site. My very old (and universally kind) friend Kate Mynard is also going through treatment for breast cancer. As a way of supporting Mike and Kate in beating cancer, I have decided to take part in the River Kwai half marathon in Thailand on 11 September. Mike's blog, and seeing Kate recently has inspired me to do something a bit daft, namely that I am going to Thailand for the weekend to run the race. The reason I am telling you about this is that I would like to raise some money for two cancer charities, chosen by Mike and Kate respectively. The two charities I am supporting are:
www.starthrowers.org.uk/donate.php uk.virginmoneygiving.com/charity-web/charity/finalCharityHomepage.action?charityId=1002573 I am hoping to break the 1h 25m mark for the half marathon this time, so lots of encouraging messages (and of course, messages for Kate & Mike) are welcome! These can be sent via marc@nationaleducationtrust.net and may be published on this page. I will let you know how I get on. Thanks in advance for your help. NB I am paying all costs for the trip. 100% of your money will go directly to the charity / charities. Marc Rowland |
