Founding Director
Roy Blatchford was Her Majesty's Inspector of Schools (HMI) in England, with lead responsibilities for school improvement and for the national inspection of good and outstanding schools. He was Principal (1999 - 2003) of Walton High & Walton Learning Centre in Milton Keynes, opened in September 1999 and described by OFSTED as 'a first class centre of learning - innovative and inspiring'. He was Founding Director (1996 - 1998) of Reading Is Fundamental, UK a non-profit organisation developing children's reading and family literacy. From 1986 - 1996 he was Headteacher of Bicester Community College, an Oxfordshire comprehensive school serving 1200+ 11 - 19 year old students.
Previous appointments include publishing editor and translator (French/English), 'Time Out' theatre critic, children's book reviewer; and twelve years teaching in inner-London schools, youth and adult services. During the past thirty years he has worked as a national trainer and key-note speaker on reading and family literacy, the fun and fundamentals of teaching and learning, school leadership and innovation, and building schools for the future. During the past two years he has helped establish inspection and school review systems in New York, Dubai and Mumbai.
He has been an LEA nominated governor on schools under special measures, and been an adviser in Education Action Zones. He has served with the Arts Council, and has worked in a voluntary capacity within both HM Prison Service and the National Health Service. He has served as Chairman to a number of organisations and associations, and was Convenor for many years to the Thames Valley Health Authority. He is a Visiting Fellow at Oxford Brookes University.
He has broadcast, lectured and written widely on literature and young people's reading in the UK, Europe and the USA. In the Spring Term 1993 he was awarded an English Speaking Union Scholarship to Rollins College, Florida. In 1993 he was invited by the Secretary of State for Education to be a Member of the School Curriculum Assessment Authority, under the chairmanship of Lord Dearing: period of office 1993 - 1997. He has served on a number of other national working groups in education.
He is the author/editor of over 150 books for pupils, teachers and parents including English For You, English Essentials, Managing the Secondary School, The Effective Teacher, Management and the Community, Primary-Secondary Into Practice, Reflected Values, Parents' Guide to Pre-School Education, The RIF Family Guide to Encouraging Young Readers, Visual Literacy, Successful Learning, Different Cultures.

Tony Ashmore is NET's policy adviser. Tony followed a PhD in Chemical Education by teaching at school and university level, becoming Registrar and Director of Education and Qualifications of a major professional body. He is also a consultant on professional regulation, governance and organisational development in the not for profit sector.

Diane Cassels is part time Administrative Assistant with responsibility for work on programmes in schools. Diane is Learning Support Assistant in an Essex primary school. Diane is a Trainer of 6s & 7s delivering training and support to school staff.

Kate Dethridge is Associate Director of the National Education Trust
Kate has been the Head of Churchend Primary School in Reading for 12 years, and has twice been judged 'outstanding' by OfSTED.
The school is a National Support School and Kate is a National Leader of Education. She has held posts of Executive Headship and supported leadership teams of schools in difficulty. She has been a consultant Headteacher on the NCSL 'New Visions' programme for new Headteachers and is an accredited Primary SIP. She is also involved with the training and assessment of SIP candidates for the National College.
She has been an Additional Inspector(Primary) with Ofsted for many years, with a particular interest in leadership and management, EYFS and assessment. She attends National Primary Strategy English Board meetings and is a panel member of the DCSF Implementation Review Unit.

Kate Dethridge
Jane Gaber has had over 20 years experience teaching modern foreign languages in comprehensive schools in Inner and Outer London. She has been National Co-coordinator of Children First, a voluntary organisation campaigning on transracial fostering and adoption and co-edited 'In the Best Interests of the Child', a collection of essays on that topic. She also works as a freelance writer for the Economic and Social Research Council.
Sophie Hulse is a part-time Intern for the trust. She is an undergraduate at the University of Manchester studying Politics and International Relations, and is Social Secretary for the University Politics Society. She has travelled to Tanzania with the education charity Friends of Urambo and Mwanhala, monitoring government funding to schools in deprived rural areas. She has also spent time travelling in Southeast Asia. Sophie will be working on marketing and public relations.

Angela Jackson is National Programme Manager responsible for programmes within the Aspire and Inspire strand of NET's activities. Angela was an Ofsted inspector responsible for carrying out registration, inspection and regulatory work within childcare settings. Prior to this, having taught in schools in both urban and rural areas, she was Special Educational Needs Manager at a large comprehensive school in East Anglia.

Amisha Modi is a full-time intern at the trust. She recently graduated from The University of Nottingham with a BA Hons degree in Politics. Amisha has previously worked with NGOs in India to promote education initiatives in both inner-city and rural regions. By promoting the values of the trust, Amisha hopes to gain experience useful to a Masters degree in International Development. Amisha will be involved in events organisation and administration for the National Education Trust.

Marc Rowland has been National Education Trust Business Manager since March 2007, having previously spent 5 years at Ofsted in a number of project management roles. Marc is also a school governor at Waterside Combined School in Buckinghamshire.

Annabel Vernon
After graduating from Cambridge University, Annabel spent six years as a full-time international rower, with a career culminating in a world gold in 2007 and an Olympic silver medal in Beijing in 2008. She is combining her London 2012 campaign with a part-time role with NET, focusing on marketing and public relations.

Vivienne Watson
Vivienne graduated from University College London with a Bachelors degree in History and History of Art. She went on to gain a Diploma in Mandarin from the School of Oriental and African Studies and recently spent a year in China teaching English. Vivienne worked in the refugee charity sector before joining NET as Administrative Officer.
